Acne Scars

Acne scars form when acne damages the skin’s deeper layers, which affects how it heals. They can appear as pits, bumps or areas of discolouration. The most common types include “ice pick” scars (deep, narrow pits), “boxcar” scars (wider depressions with defined edges), and “rolling”  (wave-like) scars. How your skin scars depends on the severity of the acne as well as your genetics, and unfortunately, picking and squeezing spots can also make them worse.

You might have long-lasting acne scars from teenage breakouts or adult acne that’s long since cleared. Either way, the scars probably affect how you feel about your skin. Even when the acne itself is under control, the scarring can remain, and there’s only so much you can do with makeup if you want to cover it up.

How does laser treatment help with acne scars?

At LaserHQ, we use fractional CO2 laser treatment to help reduce acne scarring. The laser delivers a measured amount of energy beneath the skin's surface, encouraging your body to build new, healthy tissue and progressively smooth out the scars. This can help soften scarring, even out skin texture and improve overall skin tone.

The fractional CO2 laser works by creating thousands of tiny treatment zones deep within the skin, triggering the body's natural healing response and stimulating the production of fresh collagen and elastin. Different depths and intensities can be targeted depending on the type of scarring — whether that's ice pick, boxcar or rolling scars — so during your consultation we'll assess your specific scarring and choose the most appropriate settings for you. Your skin type, tone and how your skin typically heals will all be taken into account.

You'll need multiple sessions to continually encourage your skin to rebuild collagen through each healing cycle, so a complete course of treatment will normally take several months. Results build gradually with each session as the skin remodels itself from within.

While fractional CO2 laser can greatly improve acne scarring, complete removal isn't always possible. We consider it an important part of our job to give you realistic expectations about what treatment can achieve before you decide whether to go ahead — because we want you to feel genuinely confident in your results.
