Large Pores
Large or enlarged pores are one of the most common skin concerns people ask us about — and one of the most frustrating, because no amount of primer or foundation ever quite disguises them. Pores are tiny openings in the skin's surface that allow sebum and sweat to reach the surface, and while you can't actually change their size permanently through skincare alone, several factors can make them appear significantly larger than they naturally are. These include excess oil production, the natural loss of collagen and elastin as we age, sun damage, and a build-up of dead skin cells that stretches the pore walls over time. Genetics also plays a role — some people are simply more prone to visible pores than others.
Enlarged pores most commonly appear on the nose, cheeks and chin, and can give the skin an uneven, rough or congested appearance. When combined with oily skin, blackheads or acne scarring, they can make the complexion look dull and textured even when skin is otherwise healthy.
How does laser treatment help?
At LaserHQ, we use fractional CO2 laser treatment to significantly reduce the appearance of enlarged pores and improve overall skin texture. It's worth understanding how this works — lasers don't technically shrink pores in the way you might think. Instead, they work by stimulating collagen production, which tightens and smooths the skin around the pore walls, making pores look visibly smaller. At the same time, the resurfacing action of the fractional CO2 laser exfoliates the outer layers of damaged skin, removing rough patches and promoting the growth of a smoother, more refined skin surface. This dual action — collagen stimulation from beneath and resurfacing from above — is what makes fractional CO2 one of the most effective treatments available for pore refinement.
In some cases a single CO2 laser treatment can produce noticeable improvement, with smoother skin and a visible reduction in pore size after just one session. However, more pronounced pores or those combined with acne scarring often benefit from a course of treatments for optimal results. During your consultation we'll assess your skin, discuss what you're hoping to achieve and put together a treatment plan tailored specifically to you — taking into account your skin type, tone and how your skin typically heals.
As with all our treatments, we'll always give you honest, realistic expectations before you commit to anything. Enlarged pores can be significantly improved with fractional CO2 laser, and for most people the results are genuinely transformative — but we'll make sure you know exactly what to expect before we get started.
