Are you applying your SPF everyday? Did you know you can cause skin damage even while indoors?
We will be discussing the importance of wearing SPF daily and more importantly how to still enjoy the sun and have laser treatments.
Up to 80% of the sun’s rays can pass through clouds. SPF is an important preventive health care habit that should be maintained all year, including the winter months, increasing your risk of exposure to sun damage. When in doubt: always wear you SPF!
What is Sun Damage?
Sun damage can occur when the skin has been over stimulated by the UV rays over a prolonged period of time. There are two types of UV’s UV-A and UV-B which in there own way contribute to skin damage and reducing overall skin health.
Skin damage can occur in different forms such as;
- Premature ageing
- Fine line and wrinkles
- Sun spots and hyper/hypo pigmentation marks.
- Loss of skin tone (decreased elasticity)
- Rough, uneven skin texture.
- Broken capillaries (spider veins), usually around the nose and chest.
How to avoid Sun Damage
It is recommend to use a high quality SPF everyday. If you lay your hand flat your first two fingers is the recommended amount of suncream which should be applied to the face and neck area to gain full coverage this is the equivalent to 1/4 teaspoon.
There are a wide range of suncreams out there which hold different levels of protection. Here at LaserHQ we recommend the Heliocare range this is medical grade SPF. Some of their products contain treatments to help improve the skin for example one helps pigmentation marks. It is important to wear this every morning on top of your moisturiser.
Sun exposure and laser hair removal.
Our laser machines are the best on the market here at LaserHQ chosen specially to help our clients gain the best results. The most common question we get is “when can I go in the sun?”
We say you need to be out the sun a minimum of 3 day pre and post laser.
However….
It is important when having laser on your face or any body part to protect this against the sun. Throughout your laser journey we always recommend using a good quality high SPF to protect you skin. Applying SPF will increase the protection against UVA and UVB which can be harmful and cause unintentional damage to your skin.
